Foam/sponge has a role in almost every business, and certainly in most people’s lives. It obviously plays a part in almost any janitorial enterprise (or department), but is also used in manufacturing - you will find sponge foam in many products, from packing material to headphones to KTV boxes to seats and cushions of every kind. Even many car seats utilize some type of sponge foam, because its properties in providing comfortable, flexible support are unsurpassed. It’s also wonderful for sound suppression (insulation sponge and foam). It can fit almost anywhere, and conform to the shape needed.

This flexibility is why foam sponge has so many uses. But this flexibility is also an impediment to disposal. In short, foam sponge takes up a LOT of space. It’s quite porous and expansive, and is difficult to store, pack, and ship in any large quantity.

Until recently, there were two methods for disposal – incineration, and the landfill. Incineration destroys the entire item, and is efficient in a space sense. However, it is a dirty, polluting method of disposal, and in many places, has become outlawed as society gets more environmentally conscious.

The landfill is a good disposal solution, but space becomes a factor (e.g.: the space required for this fluffy, porous material is increasingly costly.) So the solution is to landfill the sponge, but in a dense, compacted state. Which is where baling sponge foam comes in.

Bales can range from 600*400*300 (mm) all the way to 1100*700*1000 (mm), and, depending on baled material, can weigh anywhere from 20-500kg per bale.
