Square Baler / Rectangular Baler vs Round Baler / Cylindrical Baler

Understand the Difference Between Square Baler ( Rectangular Baler ) And Round Baler ( Cylindrical Baler )

Ever thought of the utilization of the waste grass or the agricultural waste like hay, paddy, flax straw and grass? The best treatment method of the agricultural waste materials includes the use of balers. The balers are effective baling machines to reduce the size or form of the agricultural wastes. They convert materials into a form such that they can be recycled or reused for some other purpose. These compact bales can be used for several functions. These are very easy to handle, store and even can be transported to other places for specific purposes. The bales are bundled together and some of the intrinsic and natural properties are made to retain for providing comfort and ease of use. There are several types of bales created by the use of a baler:

  • – Square baler or Rectangular baler
  • – Round baler or Cylindrical baler

These bales are kept intact and are bound with the use of wires or strapping and netting. The users can make use of the size or form of baler as per individual requirements.

Square Baler or Rectangular Baler:

The most typical type of baler is the rectangular baler or square baler. These are used to produce the rectangular or the square bales which can be used for many waste materials like textile, cardboards, plastic bottles, plastic films, wood shavings, straw, tires, plant fiber, animal fiber and metal waste etc. The square baler is used to compress the waste materials into square-sized bales which are then stored and transported for recycling or reuse. While comparing square baler with round baler, the square bales are usually tied using the wires or twines. Some small square bales are very light in weight by weighing up to 20 to 40 kg based on mini baler. These can be used for small acres because of their light weight and ease of use. Some rectangular bales can be weighted to up to 1200kg based on fully automatic horizontal baler.

In agriculture, the square bales also prove to be highly cost-effective. Hence, the farmers can employ the use of square balers with much ease onto their agricultural fields. The square balers also consume lesser energy than the other balers like cylindrical balers or the round balers. Hence, they put less burden on the consumption of the natural fuel.

Round Baler or or Cylindrical Baler:

It is the most common type of baler used for producing round or cylindrical bales. The grass and hay materials are rolled inside the round baler which with the help of efficient equipment like rubber belts and fixed rollers, reduce the hay and other waste materials into round compressed bales. The round or rolled bales are then stored separately with the help of plastic wraps for protection against misuse or harsh weather conditions. In square baler vs round baler, the round baler produces large and heavy bales, which weigh as much as 500 to 1000 kg and thus tend to be quite inconvenient to store and transport easily.

Owing to the big size of the baler, the round baler consumes a greater amount of energy and thus, might put stress in the financial conditions of the farmers. In square baler vs round baler, these balers are also efficient for the use of large agricultural fields wherein the big and round bales can be stored effectively. However, for ease of use, there are “mini round balers” have also come up.
